England has had lots of amazing players over the years, and yet they only won the FIFA World Cup in 1966. That was the last and only major international trophy the England national team has ever won. The goal for them is to win the European Championship this summer for the first time. They will take on the Netherlands in the semifinal and will play their third semifinal out of the last four major tournaments under Gareth Southgate. A young player who could help them reach the finals of the EUROS is Kobbie Mainoo. The Manchester United youngster is an exciting prospect and started in the last two knockout stages with England at the EUROS. Even though he only started in two games for England in the tournament, he has better stats than legends like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. According to Opta Joe, Kobbie Mainoo has the best passing accuracy of any Euros midfielder who has been on record since 1980. He completed 135 passes out of 142 passes attempted.

England fans have not been impressed with the team's performances at the EUROS, but since Mainoo started in the knockout stages, the team has somewhat improved, and many are impressed with the midfielder. He has only misplaced five passes at the EUROS so far and has showcased his defensive and attacking abilities. In the first half against Switzerland, Mainoo had a perfect display with 100% pass accuracy and 100% tackles won.

His England teammates are also impressed with the young midfielder. Luke Shaw said, "I don't see him as a young lad anymore. He's one of our main players. He has the world at his feet." Declan Rice also spoke about Mainoo and said, "I've got to say, Kobbie [Mainoo] has been unbelievable... He's been unreal."

Mainoo after the EUROS

Regardless of whether England and Mainoo play in the EUROS final or not, he will likely take a break after the tournament ends this Sunday. Mainoo will then play with Manchester United ahead of the next season by potentially playing in the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10th at Wembley Stadium.
