The summer transfer window continues to go on, and a club has yet to make a big money signing that has caused amazement among football fans. Kylian Mbappé arrived at Real Madrid, and it may be the biggest signing of the summer but not the most expensive since he joined as a free agent. His former club, Paris Saint Germain, may be close to completing a signing that is worth a lot.

PSG is interested in signing Benfica's João Neves. The Portugal International midfielder is seen as the future of Portugal football and has become a star at Benfica these past two seasons. Neves has been on the radar of PSG, Manchester United, and other European clubs. The price tag has been an issue for many clubs as his release clause is worth more than $120 million, and the Portuguese club did not want an offer less than that.

Benfica will now be willing to listen to offers of less than $120 million this summer, and PSG will be the frontrunner to sign him ahead of Manchester United. Fabrizio Romano reports that PSG has sent an official proposal for João Neves to Benfica after personal terms have been agreed. Rumors suggest that the bid could be worth around $75-90 million.

The club president of Benfica, Rui Costa, publicly stated that the club will not only accept a $120 million bid for Neves to leave, suggesting a lower fee is fine for the Portuguese club to accept. Costa said, "There’s a proposal for João [Neves], yes. We are discussing the amount. I never said that João [Neves] would leave only for €120m."

Fabrizio Romano talked about how close the deal for Neves to join PSG could've been and expects the deal to be finalized this week. Romano said, "PSG is entering into next week with big confidence for João Neves, PSG really feels João Neves will join them and is extremely optimistic. Negotiations ongoing between clubs, looks like a matter of time for PSG to get the deal done for João Neves.”

The reason why João Neves wants to join PSG

According to Romano, Neves is convinced by the PSG project, with Luis Enrique as a crucial factor. The Spanish manager joined the French club last summer and led. He guided the team to win three trophies: the Ligue 1 title, the French Super Cup, and the Coupe De France.

PSG reached the semifinals of the Champions League but lost 2-0 on aggregate against Borussia Dortmund. The French club finished the French league this past season with 76 points after 34 matches played. Their league record was 22 wins, ten draws, and two defeats.
