The 2024 European Championship is part of history, and the winners were the Spanish national team after their 2-1 victory over England in Berlin. They defeated every team they faced in the competition and even eliminated Jamal Musiala's Germany. The two teams were among the best teams in the tournament, as Musiala showed great form. He scored three goals for Germany but was eliminated by Spain in the quarterfinals.
The Spanish national team winning EURO 2024 was special for them as Spain now holds the record for the most European Championship wins of any European country. They have won their fourth in its history. During the celebration in Madrid, Spain's captain Alvaro Morata name-dropped Germany's best player, Jamal Musiala, in a funny joke. Morata joked and asked, "Where's Musiala!" when presenting Dani Carvajal to the stage.
Now, these actions will have consequences as certain players from Spain have been charged by UEFA. Morata has been charged by UEFA for his comments on Jamal Musiala, among other things, during Spain's title celebrations. Rodri also charged for comments on Gibraltar as the Manchester City midfielder chanted, "Gibraltar is Spanish."
The acts of Morata and Rodri are seen as extremely provocative and insulting. The Atheltic reports that the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) initially lodged a complaint with UEFA over “extremely provocative and insulting” celebrations by players of Spain’s national team following their success in Berlin. The rules of decent conduct have been violated according to the charge of UEFA, and the punishment could be a fine and perhaps a game ban. Morata and Rodri were the most controversial out of the rest of the Spanish national team.
Many German fans were very annoyed by Morata's comments on Musiala when he introduced Dani Carvajal. Musiala played against Spain in the quarterfinals but couldn't score or assist against them. German fans were confused as to why Morata called out Musiala and made fun of him for not scoring against Spain in EURO 2024. Musiala played the entire match against Spain, which lasted 120 minutes, 1-1, after 90 minutes of regular time.
In the 51st minute, Dani Olmo scored the opener at the edge of the box as he was assisted by Lamine Yamal. In the 89th minute, Florian Wirtz scored the equalizer for Germany to send the game to extra time. In the 119th minute, Spain grabbed the winner as Dani Olmo sent in a perfect cross for Mikel Merino, who scored a header past Manuel Neuer to give Spain the 2-1 win and advance to the semifinals.
Jamal Musiala played and started in all of Germany's five matches of EURO 2024 this summer. He scored three goals in the tournament and was tied as the top goalscorer of the competition. He scored two goals in the group stage and one in the knockout stages. He scored in Germany's 5-1 win against Scotland and in the 2-0 win against Hungary.
Musiala then scored against Denmark in the Round of 16, a 2-0 win. Musiala was part of the EURO 2024 Team of the Tournament and the only German player in the team. The team is dominated by Spanish players as there were six: Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz, Rodri, and Marc Cucurella. The other players are Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, William Saliba, and Mike Maignan.
