The world of the internet and the world of soccer have something in common: the myths and mysteries that exist within them. And one of the most recent ones has internet users wondering: what does Ankara Messi mean?
Qatar World Cup 2022: What is the prediction for Lionel Messi to be World Champion?
And the answer is as enigmatic as the question itself, but it's worth checking out to find out why the Argentinean star inspires this kind of myth.
The term Ankara Messi actually means "faces Messi" and the phrase originated from Joaquim Maria Puyal's account in Catalan of Messi's historic goal against Getafe on April 18, 2007 for the Copa del Rey match.
The Catalan narrator gradually increased the intensity of his narration as he watched the play in which Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini got past several defenders.
The narrator was actually saying "encara Messi" which means "face Messi", but what is not a mystery is why this phrase has now gone so viral on TikTok and social media.
Content creator Lucas Rodriguez, a comedian, and streamer who uploads new material on Twitch and Booyah! on a daily basis was the creator of this trend.
The trend is about when someone is about to achieve something and this is being captured on video, the audio implies that the goal is close, but that it is necessary to overcome obstacles to achieve it.
This is why the audio became popular for moments in which, for example, a person is about to kiss another, to give suspense to the situation that is captured on video.
And when Messi's new nickname jumped from TikTok to social networks, the nickname practically prevailed over the other terms with which the PSG player is usually located on the Internet.
Messi's new nickname has gone so viral that it has even overtaken the nickname "Pulga" as the player's new nickname.
Even its creator has been so surprised by the success of this new nickname that he does not understand why it was so successful.
"It was funny to me and I started to say 'Ankara' to Messi and there are people who joined in. It's kind of embarrassing to tell it because it doesn't contain any jokes. It's just part of the stupidity of total nonsense," the content creator explained in an interview.
The nickname was so successful that last June the Argentine Professional Soccer League uploaded an image of Messi with "Ankara" as the only text.
The publication received a response from the official profile of the Turkish capital, who wrote "Buenos Aires", along with a light blue heart, the flag of the European country, and a goat in reference to the acronym G.O.A.T (the best of all time, in Spanish).
It should be remembered that Ankara is the capital of Turkey and that is why they received this response.
