Alfredo Talavera of Pumas and Guillermo Ochoa from América are two of the best goalkeepers in Mexico and their great performances with their respective teams have led them to be called up to the Mexican National Team directed by Gerardo Martino, despite their age.
Talavera has been a fundamental piece of the university team since his arrival to the team in the Apertura 2020, where the goalkeeper only received 13 annotations in 23 games, taking into account the Liguilla and the final played against Club León.
On the other hand, in this Guard1anes 2021 and after 12 games played, the 38-year-old goalkeeper has only received 9 annotations. For his good performances last year, he was chosen as the best goalkeeper thanks to 95 saves and 6 unbeaten hurdles in the contest where the University team was runner-up.
For his part, Guillermo Ochoa has in his favor a great European experience, since from 2011 to 2018 he played for teams in France, Spain and Belgium. However, for 2019 the goalkeeper returned to America, where he has stood out for his presence under the three sticks and in this Clausura 2021 he has played 10 games as a starter and has only received 8 annotations.
Currently, both goalkeepers of the Mexico National Team are playing in Liga MX. Memo Ochoa, the starter, is the goalkeeper for America, while Alfredo Talavera is the goalkeeper for Pumas UNAM.
According to the statistics of both goalkeepers in the Apertura 2020 and the Clausura 2021, Talavera de los Pumas has better numbers. The feline goalkeeper has 90 saves, 82% effectiveness, 8.5 goals prevented and 20 goals conceded. For his part, Ochoa has 68 saves, 74% performance, 4.3 goals avoided and 24 goals against.
