They were not injured, but they did experience a moment of tension.

Moments of added tension were experienced hours before a new date of the Qualifiers is played towards Qatar 2022. It is that the Belizean team, who arrived in Haiti this Monday for a qualifying duel of the Concacaf for the World Cup, was intercepted by armed men on their way from the airport to the hotel, in an incident that did not put the integrity of the athletes at risk, although it did represent a situation of logical fear.

Despite being escorted by the police, "the team's bus was stopped by a group of insurgents with assault rifles on motorcycles, and the police were forced to negotiate with them to continue the journey to the hotel", the Federation reported. of Belize in a statement released to the media.

"It's a situation that the team had never faced, but we are pleased to report that our 'Jaguars', despite being shaken by this ordeal, are safe at the hotel", added the statement, collected by the AFP news agency.

The Belizean players were very scared

After expressing its "disappointment" and "disgust" over the incident, Belize assured that it made contact with FIFA and Concacaf, the confederation to which it belongs, and that they are making efforts to place the team in a safe zone. "It's unfortunate that our 'Jaguars' face such a traumatic experience", considered the Federation.

"It was a very scary moment. Let's stick together and make the best decisions when it comes to the team", said forward and scorer Deon McCaulay, who's also one of Belize's captains.

The Jaguars are due to play their first match against Haiti on Thursday in the group stage of the Concacaf qualifying for the Qatar-2022 World Cup at the Sylvio Cator stadium in Port-au-Prince.
