The history of the confrontations between Chivas and América began to take an important effervescence as a result of the professionalization of Mexican soccer in 1943. It is from that moment when the victories and defeats of the most important game in the league are officially recorded.
The 59-60 season was key for the rivalry between 'Rojiblancos' and 'Azulcremas'. Both teams fought inch by inch for the championship and in one phase of the championship, América visited the Perla Tapatia to face Atlas, Oro and Chivas consecutively. They defeated the three teams from Jalisco by a score of 2-0, so América's coach Fernando Marcos declared that the new way to dial to Guadalajara by phone was 2-0-2-0-2-0, courtesy of the team from that city.
The words deeply penetrated the pride of the 'Rojiblancos', who visited the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City for the second round and applied the famous 2-0 to America. The triumph led the 'Rebaño Sagrado' to its third league championship, with which the nickname of 'Campeonísimo' began to emerge.

Years later, Chivas and Águilas faced each other twice in the dispute for the title of champion of champions, both trophies won by the Guadalajara. The matches took place in 1964 and 1965. In one of them, the Chivas player "Tigre" Sepúlveda was sent off and after that, he took off his shirt, threw it onto the field provoking all the America's fans.
Those insults in the 1960s laid the foundations for one of the continent's most important rivalries. With the entry of América to the television group that acquired it, they began hiring international and higher quality footballers that made the Eagles a squad that constantly fought for the championship. The investments of the "millionaires" became the ideal counterpart to Chivas, a popular team of pure Mexican players.
