Despite the recent success, Lionel Messi and the rest of the Argentina national team want to win the trophy so they can be back-to-back champions. The team is optimistic, but they have a superstition or tradition they do before a major tournament. The Argentina national team is having a barbeque before the start of the 2024 Copa America, which starts next week on June 20th. Emiliano Martinez is heard in a video online that shows how the cooks are cooking meat for the barbeque that the team will be eating ahead of the big tournament this summer. The team morale is at an all-time high, and they hope they can win a third consecutive tournament under their manager, Lionel Scaloni.

The Argentine Football Association [AFA] president, Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, shared a photo of the dinner he and the rest of the Argentine team had last night ahead of Copa America. Tapia wrote on his social media pages, “The Dinner of World Champions.” The team is already in the United States after their recent friendly match in Chicago against Ecuador this past weekend.

Argentina defeated Ecuador 1-0 over the weekend, courtesy of a goal scored by Angel Di Maria in the first half. Messi played in the second half and was in the game for 34 minutes. Argentina has one more friendly match to prepare for the Copa America as they will play against Guatemala on Friday at the FedEx Field in Maryland. The Argentina final list of players for Copa America will be released after the friendly match against Guatemala.

Messi and Argentina’s Copa America

Argentina will start to defend their Copa America trophy next week, June 20th, against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They will then play against Chile on June 25th at the MetLife Stadium. Their final group stage match will be against Peru on June 29th at the Hard Rock Stadium. Argentina is in Group A and will play the winners or runners-up of Group B in the quarterfinals, which includes Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica, if they get out of their group.
