Argentina fans were going crazy for Lionel Messi in the city of New York.

Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team will be playing tonight against Chile at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This will be Messi and Argentina's second game of the Copa America USA 2024, and they could qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition. Argentina is currently top of Group A after their 2-0 win against Canada a couple of days ago. Today and yesterday were a big day for Argentina fans as they got to celebrate their birthday of Messi in the streets of New York City. Hundreds of Argentina fans gathered at Times Square to sing choruses and chants for the national team. The fans had the drums and the loud chorus ringing around Times Square as they awaited the big match against Chile at the MetLife Stadium. Even though the stadium is in New Jersey, it is very close to New York City, as it is around a 30 to 45-minute drive from one of the biggest cities in the world.

Messi's love and admiration from the Argentina fans did not go away as they sang happy birthday to the Argentina icon. The fans are hopeful that their team could win a third consecutive interaction competition with Messi and under Lionel Scaloni. They have won the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Messi and the Argentina national team were not in New York because their training session was in New Jersey, near the stadium. Argentina fans gathered outside of the national team's hotel to chant for Messi and the team. They even sang the happy birthday song for the Argentine icon. Messi made it up to the fans who showed up in front of the hotel by greeting them from the window, which excited the fans a lot.

Lionel Messi's Copa America so far

Messi had a decent game against Canada because he provided an assist in the 2-0 win. Messi created the most changes of the match with five, and he had three shots on target. He will now look to score his first goal of the tournament tonight against Chile.
