Lionel Messi struggled in the match against Peru this week in the Copa America. The Argentine star revealed that he was having issues with muscle pain during the game and he was sick during the match. Messi is set to miss the next game against Peru in the Copa America group stage. The replacement for Messi in the next match could be Alejandro Garnacho, who has yet to play in the Copa America. Lionel Scaloni called him up ahead of Paulo Dybala. Garnacho has played as a right winger at Manchester United, which is the position Messi plays at the Argentina national team. Another option could be Valentin Carboni, who is a left-foot player and can play in that position as well. Scaloni spoke about playing Garnacho in the next match and said, "The next game, the guys who haven't had the opportunity yet are going to play, because I need to see them and because they deserve it."

Scaloni spoke more about Garnacho, who is seen as the future of Argentina. Scaloni said, "I need to put him in, someone else has to come out. It is very easy for you, but it is not easy for me to make that decision. We would love for him to play because he is a boy who gives us a very good freshness, but when you make the game plan, he has the intention that maybe he can come in and then the game changes."

Scaloni believes that Garnacho could create good competition in the national team if he performs well in the game against Peru. The Argentina coach said, "He still hasn’t had the opportunity, but we hope to give it to him and that he can take advantage of it. If he does it well, he makes it difficult for both the coach and his team-mate.”

Scaloni on Messi's injury

Despite Messi's scare of feeling sick in the last match, Scaloni was still impressed with his performance. The coach said, "He played this game with fever and we will give him rest in next match against Peru. With Messi, we believe that we will achieve the Copa, and his presence is the advantage that any team in the world desires.”
