Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team are close to preparing for the upcoming 2024 Copa America tournament in June. Preparations will start at the beginning of June with two friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala. Manchester United gave Argentina some great news ahead of the Copa America as Lisandro Martinez looks back to be fully fit. The Argentine center-back started in the game against Brighton and Hove Albion today and played for 59 minutes. Martinez has recently come back from an injury he suffered in March, but now he is back and looks to be in great form ahead of the Copa America, which is amazing news for Messi and Argentina, who want to defend their title.
Martinez has been very unlucky with injuries this season for Manchester United, even though he has delivered on the pitch whenever he gets the chance. Martinez has played 11 matches in the Premier League this season where he started in eight. The Argentine played one FA Cup match and one Champions League match. Martinez will hope not to suffer as many injuries as she did this season since it’s the lowest amount of games in one season for him in his European career.
Martinez played 14 minutes in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United this past week at Old Trafford. In the 2-0 win over Brighton today, Martinez has a 92% pass accuracy, 45 touches, two passes into the final third, 100% tackles won, two clearances, and a clean sheet. Manchester United and Martinez’s Premier League season is over, but they have one more game left. Manchester United will play Manchester City in the FA Cup Final next weekend at Wembley Stadium.
Martinez has been out for a long time, and his last Argentina appearance was in March 2023 in a friendly match against Panama. The defender played in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina won the tournament on penalties against France. Martinez will now want to win another Copa America trophy after winning it with Argentina in 2021 in Brazil.
