The Mexican national team will face Honduras in the CONCACAF qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This will be a key match for El Tri's aspirations. Despite not making the trip due to health problems, Gerardo Martino seems to have outlined the starting eleven that will seek victory in 'Catracho' territory to secure their pass to the World Cup and not at the Estadio Azteca.
After the exhibition against the United States at the Estadio Azteca, where the Mexican team showed showy soccer, everything seems to indicate that El Tri will opt for keeping the same base that has given them results. The 4-3-3 formation will once again be the tactical formation to be used by the Mexican national team.
Guillermo Ochoa's performance against the Stars and Stripes made it clear that the Águilas del América goalkeeper is still the keeper of the goal. As in the previous match, 'Paco Memo' will serve as captain of El Tri.
In defense, the Mexican national team will present some changes with respect to the previous lineup. The right flank would be occupied by Erick Aguirre replacing Jorge Sanchez; the central defense would be formed by Cesar Montes and Nestor Araujo, the latter replacing Johan Vásquez. Gerardo Arteaga would continue to play on the left flank.
The midfield would not present any novelties. The three players in charge of the midfield would be headed by Edson Alvarez, Héctor Herrera and one of the doubts would be 'Charly' Rodríguez or Erick Gutiérrez. Erick Sanchez is not likely to start.
And finally, despite not being able to score, the Mexican attack would not move. With Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano and Jesús Manuel 'Tecatito' Corona on the wings, while Raúl Jiménez would be the center forward. Mexico will be ready with Honduras starting the strongest team they displayed in the CONCACAF Nations League and in the Gold Cup. The Honduras lineups are expected to be strong to defeat Mexico with players like Denil Maldonado, Andy Najar, Anthony Lozano, Angel Tejada and more. The game is important for the qualification of both teams, specially Mexico that will want to break the curse and qualify for the World Cup quarter finals for the first time since 1986.
