The players first threatened not to be on the field for tonight's game, but a couple of hours later the players themselves indicated that they will play, but they will do it for the fans and their respective families.

Alex Larin's Twiter announcement

"As a united group, we have decided to play and give our all to keep alive this illusion for the country. We will play for ourselves, our families, and our fans. In spite of having these unfortunate actions, which affect the concentration and focus that a match of this level requires".

In the beginning, the message sent by elements such as Eriq Zavaleta, Álex Roldán, Mario González, and Alexander Larin, made clear their refusal to play.

"As a united group, we have made the decision to step aside and not continue to be part of these efforts on the part of the federation. We will not play this game, to set a precedent and this will not happen again for us, nor for any other national team of El Salvador", reads the text.

In the same statement, the players assured that the directors do not trust the players, because "although there is a mathematical possibility, for them there is no longer a real chance" of attending the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

"We have been disrespected as professionals and individuals. This morning, President Hugo Carrillo and the committee chose the worst moment to distract us and reproach us for having talked to the press about cold equipment that we bought in Columbus. Using this as a distraction, to later say that they will not comply with the agreed prize agreement".

El Salvador's national team is scheduled to play against Canada at 8:00 p.m. CT.

The Central American team is currently in sixth place and still has a chance of attending the tournament to be held in December of this year. They have nine points, while fifth place Costa Rica has 13 points and Panama has 17.
