After Javier Aguirre couldn’t help CF Monterrey leave the bottom of the table of Clausura 2022 in the seven rounds that he coached them and got them eliminated in the first round of the FIFA Club World Cup, Rayados decided to part ways with him.

But it didn’t take him long to find a new job, as less than a month after he was sacked from Monterrey, he is ready to start a new chapter on his career, this time with La Liga side RCD Mallorca, which will become his sixth team in the Spanish top flight.
His arrival in Mallorca comes after the Bermellones decided to part ways with Luis García Plaza after the bad streak that he had in the current season, as he left the team on the bottom of the table fighting to avoid relegation.
Aguirre will face a new challenge in his career trying to clean his image from the bad stint he had in Rayados, as his arrival in La Isla has to do more with a sporting challenge rather than an economical interest, as he’s going to earn less money than what he was used to in Monterrey.
According to reports from El Mundo, the Bermellones will pay him $1 million per season, a third of the salary he had in Rayados. Aguirre agreed to arrive in La Liga as he wants to show he’s still capable of helping a team achieve their goals.
It’s not the first time that “El Vasco” is chosen to help put out a fire, as throughout his career he’s helped most of the teams he’s coached have looked for him to help them restabilize the team, something he even did with Mexico National Team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Aguirre will have nine games to show why he was chosen to save the season -and the category- of Mallorca, who currently stands 18 in La Liga with 26 points, just one below Cádiz CF, who for now is avoiding relegation.
Javier Aguirre first arrived in La Liga for the 2002-03 season to coach CA Osasuna. He has also coached Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, RCD Espanyol and CD Leganés. So far, he’s coached 452 games, from which he’s won 172 of them, tied 118 and lost the remainder 162.
