It is rare that after 15 years Ricardo Lavolpe has revealed the truth after so many years. In the previous World Cup in Germany 2006, it was a surprise to see that Cuauhtémoc Blanco was not called up for the Mexican team. La Volpe decided for other players and decided not to take it, which generated a great controversy around all of Mexico.

Blanco's relationship with Lavolpe was never good. Since the two were in Liga MX they never got along. The problem started when Cuauhtémoc Blanco celebrated a goal for the then Atlas de Guadalajara coach. There began the fight between the player and the coach.

After so many years, Lavolpe declared that he was wrong in not summoning Blanco and that if he could go back a long time without a doubt that he would call him. Once in the World Cup, a player with the qualities of Blanco was missing from the Mexican team and for that reason Lavolpe laments. He also maintained that it was extra sports things that made him not travel.

The main causes of the non-call was that Blanco made no difference between America and the national team, which bothered the former coach a lot. In addition to that difference and the aforementioned goal celebration, Lavolpe said that Blanco was not physically well compared to the rest of the players in the Mexican national team.
