Inter Miami still can't believe the impact Lionel Messi has had on the club, both on and off the pitch. EFE Sports Business spoke with Xavier Asensi, the Inter Miami Business Director, about the financial impact Messi had had on the club since his arrival in the summer of 2023. Asensi said, "With Messi's arrival, we went from budgeting just over 60M to ending up invoicing around 125-130M. This year, I hope we'll invoice around 200M dollars or more. Leo takes you to another level." Many Inter Miami fans now wonder if they could afford to bring more stars into the team.

Asensi continues to praise Messi for his impact in the United States, and many are looking forward to Messi and Inter Miami games every weekend. Asensi said, "We are talking about the greatest player of all time. It's like being able to say you've seen Tiger Woods play, or Michael Phelps swim, or Usain Bolt run, or watch Michael Jordan or Tom Brady. Every weekend the USA has him playing in the MLS."
Messi makes the most out of teammates at Inter Miami as his base salary is reported to be $12 million, and the compensation add one makes him earn around 20.4 million. According to Capology, Sergio Busquets reportedly earns $1.5 million a year, while Jordi Alba earns about $1 million annually. Luis Suarez is rumored to earn around $1 million, but he also is linked to numbers worth $400k a year. The total gross pay of the entire Inter Miami squad, including Messi, is worth just around $18.6 million. With these new numbers the club has earned since Messi's arrival, players could get raises, or more star players could arrive soon.
What's next for Inter Miami and Messi?
Messi and Inter Miami defeated the New York Red Bulls 6-2 at the Chase Stadium this past weekend. The Miami team will travel once again, but not to another state in the US. Messi and the team will travel to Canada to play against CF Montreal at the Stade Saputo this weekend.
